2019 marks our 8th year as an OCA affiliated club and for the past month, the Ride Leaders have been planning and preparing for a spring launch. This year brings some noteworthy behind-the-scenes changes to the club structure, as well as some adjustments to member-facing resources such as the Ride Leader team and en-route support. We can’t wait to share these and other updates with you this season!
Our mandate is to promote safe cycling within the city of Toronto while developing a sense of community through weekly group rides, training/tech seminars and other social events.
If you are new to group riding, underestimate your ability until you have more experience riding with the club. Please remember it is much better to start with a ride that is too easy than to struggle through a ride that is too hard and risk being dropped. Be aware that on some rides, riders will push the pace faster than the average speed listed for that ride. However, ride leaders will do their best to keep average pace in line with the ride category.
The faster the average speed, the higher the level of group riding skills that is required to ensure that rides remain safe. So, even if you are aerobically fit, if you are a newbie to group rides we strongly encourage you to join an easier ride to gain the skills needed to enjoy riding safely in a group. Ride leaders will be happy to give you details regarding what is expected of you on rides. Please feel free to call the ride leader if it is your first ride at that level or if it is your first club ride.
